The most frequently asked questions at our Service Center

Buying a helmet

Q: Does Schuberth offer direct sales of helmets?
A: No. Schuberth sells its products exclusively through authorized dealers who have been specially trained on Schuberth products and customer service standards. Please use our dealer search to find a dealer near you.

Q: Does Schuberth offer direct sales of accessories or spare parts?

A: Please contact your dealer to purchase Schuberth original spare parts or accessories. If your dealer does not have the part you require in stock or cannot order it for you, please contact the Schuberth Service Center directly at: usa-service(at)schuberth.com

Q: Who can I contact when I want to buy accessories for my old helmet which is no longer available on the market?

A: Please contact the Schuberth Service Center. In some cases parts may be available, however for your safety, please consider that the general lifetime of a quality helmet is 5-7 years from the time of manufacture. The protective capabilities of out-of warranty items cannot be guaranteed.

Q: How do I find a contact person outside North America?

A: Please go to schuberth.com to find the information for.

Q: Can I send my helmet directly to you?

A: Your dealer can contact us for any service they are not able to take care of in their store. Please contact the dealer from whom you bought the helmet.

Warranty

Q: How long does the warranty for my helmet last?
A: Schuberth offers a 7 year manufacturer's warranty from date of manufacture, with a 5 year warranty from the date of purchase on the C3 and C3W helmets (whichever comes first). Please note that this applies only to helmets manufactured to meet the DOT standard and purchased in North America.

Q: What happens to my warranty when I install my own intercom system?
A: Schuberth helmets are approved in accordance with the European ECE R22-05 and U.S. Department of Transportation FMVSS No. 218 standards. When a helmet intercom system is installed, changes are made to the helmet, and the warranty becomes void as it is not possible to guarantee the protective capability once the shell and/or EPS liner have been altered.
When the SRC-System is installed, the ECE and D.O.T. approval is retained because the relevant helmets are approved with this communication system.

The fit

Q: What do I do if the helmet is the wrong size or does not fit?
A: Please measure the size of your head before purchasing the helmet and have your dealer fit you properly into the correct size. Minor changes to the fit are possible with some helmet models and sizes  but are not covered by the warranty. Please ask your dealer for details.

Care

Q: How do I care for my face shield?
A: The face shield should be removed for cleaning. Clean with warm water and mild soap with a slightly moist microfiber cloth.
Never apply anti-fog gel, spray or similar substances as they can cause damage to the face shield.

Q: How do I care for my Pinlock Visor?
A: Remove the pinlock visor from the face shield prior to cleaning. Use a soft cloth and mild soapy water to remove dirt from the outer surface of the visor. Use a lint-free cloth to dry the visor.
Please never clean the visor in running water and avoid soaking it in water of chemicals.
The inside of the visor may only be cleaned with a soft and, if required, slightly moistened (recommendation: microfibre cloth). Do not use any cleaning agents or chemicals. Ensure you avoid rubbing it vigorously.
After cleaning, let the pinlock visor dry completely before re-installing onto the face shield.

Q: How do I care for my sun visor?
A: Please clean your sun visor as follows: Take a drop of mild soap and then hold the sun visor in running water which is no warmer than 20° C FOR AT MOST TWO minutes and clean it carefully with a very soft cloth or your fingertip. To protect your anti-fog coating avoid rubbing it vigorously.
Let the sun visor dry for 48 hours at room temperature. The anti-fog coating needs this time to become active again.
Store the helmet in a dry room – ideally at room temperature – with the face shield open and the sun visor down.

Q: How do I care for the liner?
A: Depending on the helmet model, you can remove the crown liner and cheek pads to wash them. Make sure you use mild soapy water and handwash in water that is not hotter than 30° C. Let the liner components dry at room temperature before re-installing into the helmet.

Q: How long can I use my Schuberth helmet?
A:  Depending on operational demands and care you should replace your helmet after 5-7 years. The outer shell is basically suitable for a longer service life, but because of signs of material fatigue and wear and tear of other components, the overall effectiveness of the helmet and unknown general conditions while it is used we recommend in the interests of your own safety that you replace your helmet after the above-mentioned period of time.

Face shield and mechanism

Q: What level of protection does the face shield provide when the sun suddenly comes out?
A: Schuberth face shields and sun visors provide protection levels of 98.8%.

Q: What is the protection level for UVA and UVB rays?
A: The sun visor filters out all the UVB rays and lets only 8% of the UVA rays through.

Q: What is the sun visor's tint level in per cent?
A: The tint level is 80%.

Q: What can I do when my Pinlock Visor does not seal properly or fogs up?
A: The fog-free Pinlock® visor is made of moisture-absorbing plastic. The air-tight chamber between the face shield and the Pinlock® visor prevents fogging of the face shield. The Pinlock Visor is not limited to a particular temperature range. However, when riding in extremely heavy rain or when the wind pressure is extremely high, it is possible that moisture will form in the air-tight chamber between the face shield and the Pinlock visor. If fogging occurs on the face shield, the Pinlock visor may possibly not be positioned correctly or the pressure on the seal is too low. The pressure on the seal can be regulated by turning the two eccentric retaining pins. To do this, remove the Pinlock visor, press the retaining pins carefully out of the face shield with the help of a flat object which is not sharp-edged, turn these up to 180° and put them back in place again. Then install the Pinlock visor and check the seal. The Pinlock visor has an anti-scratch coating on both sides, and consequently fogging can occur outside the air-tight area.
Details are provided in our downloadable Pinlock® manual (PDF).

Q: May I travel with my face shield open or without a face shield?
A: Riding without a face shield or with an open face shield can result in injury to the eyes and face through stones, dust, insects and other flying objects. The sun visor, when lowered, will provide protection from light impact from stones or insects but cannot protect from all hazards.
We therefore recommend that you should always ride with your face shield closed.

Q: It seems to me that the face shield mechanism moves too freely. What can I do?
A: The helmet's face shield mechanism is a wearing part which is subject to natural wear and tear depending on operational demands, care and storage conditions. Here, too, the warranty period is two years from the date of purchase.
You can obtain a new face shield mechanism from your dealer.
If the new mechanism does not remedy the problem, please contact your dealer (remember to submit your sales receipt). Your dealer will either check and repair the mechanism himself/herself or send your helmet to the Schuberth Service Center on your behalf. If there is no dealer in your vicinity, you are welcome to send your helmet directly to the Schuberth Service Center. Please include an accompanying letter with your helmet or the completed PDF form "Service Order"(download), a copy of your sales receipt and all your contact details, including your phone number. This will speed up the repair process.

Repair

Q: Where can I have the repairs done?
A: Please contact your dealer (remember to submit your sales receipt). Your dealer will either check and repair your helmet himself/herself or send it to the Schuberth Service Centre on your behalf.

Aeroacoustics and aerodynamics

Q: The helmet seems to me to be very loud when I'm travelling. What can be the cause of this?
A: The hallmark of a quiet helmet is low wind noise. Wind noise occurs as a result of turbulence in the air which flows around the helmet. The turbulence structures cause local fluctuations in pressure which are perceived in the helmet as noise (so-called pseudo noise).
Only the person wearing the helmet hears this sound. With most motorcycles and helmets the engine noise is hidden by this wind noise from c. 100 km/h.

For the acoustics of motorcycle helmets it must be borne in mind that the actual noise level only partly depends on the helmet. Influencing factors such as the motorcycle's fairing and the rider's riding posture, size and shape of head have a great influence on the acoustic characteristics. It must also be ensured that the helmet fits the throat snugly. (Wind deflector, anti-noise pad, scarf)

Caution:
In the case of a motorcycle with a fairing, strong air turbulences occur in the boundary area of the slipstream which is generated. These can significantly reduce the aeroacoustic performance of the helmet. The motorcycle fairing should be adjusted so that the layer of turbulence being passed through does not directly strike the bottom of the helmet.

Q: I can feel a draught in my helmet. What could be the cause?
A: Feeling draughts is a subjective matter. A draught in the helmet can have several causes:

  • Please check whether the visor fits properly and closes tightly.
  • Please check whether the anti-noise pad is correctly adjusted and the helmet is closed properly. For small helmet sizes we recommend you use a scarf.

A draught in the helmet can be influenced by the motorcycle's fairing and the riding posture, size and shape of head of the rider.
A hallmark of Schuberth is the standard minimum ventilation to ensure that there is always enough oxygen in the helmet. This counteracts any fogging tendency of the visor shield and an overconcentration of C02 – even when the helmet is completely closed.

Helmet shell and paint

Q: What should I watch out for when I want to clean my helmet shell?
A: To clean and care for the helmet shell, you can use water, soapy water or one of the commonly available motorcycle shampoos, cleaners, polishes and plastic cleaners, or benzine. The use of water and soapy water is as a rule sufficient. When using other agents, ensure that these do not come into contact with the visor as they can cause damage to the visor and its coating.

Caution:
Do not use any vehicle fuels, thinners or solvents for cleaning purposes. These substances can result in serious damage to the helmet without leaving any visible signs of this. The helmet then no longer provides its complete protective effect.

Q: What paints should I use when I want to paint and repair my helmet myself?
A: Commercially available car paints can be used to paint and repair your helmet. These may not be nitrocellulose-based, otherwise the helmet shell might be softened. We would like to point out that the ECE approval is invalidated if other paints are used which are caustic. In such cases Schuberth accepts no liability. Water-based paints are recommended. We urgently advise you not to use solvent-based paints (which contain caustic substances)!
Schuberth does not employ RAL or other paints which are commercially available. We use a specially created paint. This paint is not for sale.

Q: The colour of my Fluo helmet changes after a certain time.
A:You have purchased a SCHUBERTH helmet painted with a daylight luminous paint. Daylight luminous paints undergo a change of colour which can vary according to the exposure. This is a characteristic which is inherent in daylight luminous paints. It does not affect the quality of your helmet.

Q: When I want to attach stickers to my helmet, which ones should I use?
A: Please only use stickers which you could also affix to car paints. You must always make perfectly certain that the adhesive is solvent-free. Schuberth accepts no liability for this.

Damage from dropping

Q: What can I do when my helmet has fallen onto the ground?
A: After an accident or fall or after the helmet has been dropped – even from a low height <1m – the complete protective effect of the helmet is no longer guaranteed. The safety helmet is designed to absorb only one impact and must therefore always be replaced. The energy resulting from a collision is absorbed by the complete or partial destruction of the helmet shell and/or inner shell – similar to the crumple zone in a car. Because of the helmet design this damage can frequently not be recognised by the wearer.

Modern safety helmets are designed in such a way that part of the impact energy is absorbed by the destruction of the helmet shell so that no residual energy is transferred directly to the head. If the helmet shell were to remain rigid during impact, the energy would be transferred to the head, thus resulting in a greater risk of injury.
If you are in doubt after you have dropped your helmet, you can contact your dealer to have it sent to the Schuberth Service Centre for a free safety check. Your helmet will then be completely disassembled and will undergo a visual check. Please remember to submit your sales receipt.
